In late 1950's, a man, who had just got the license of a ballroom dance teacher, was eager to improve his dancing, and made up his mind to go up to Tokyo, from the countryside, 400 miles away from Tokyo.
In 1958, he jumped at the chance to go to Tokyo by applying for the recuitment of a dance teacher at Sukegawa Dance School, and came to Tokyo with about 7,000 yen (one-month salary -- about $60). While working as a teacher, he also participated in tournaments. Sooner or later a burning question came to his mind: "Why can't we dance well in the tournament as we do in practice?" Considering the difference between the tournament and practice, he came up with the idea that the dress might be causing the problem. |

Then he started unseaming the dress, and resewed it again by himself, while he hadn't learned any sewing before. |

Since then, his reputation had spread quickly, and the orders so flooded that he had no time to work as a teacher anymore.
A man, who left for the capital dreaming to dance better, and who started sewing the dress in order to dance better in the competetions, finally found his calling in the dressmaking. Little by little he saved money to start the company, and in May 1973, he incorporated "Fujita Dress" in Shinjuku, Tokyo, Japan. For 30 years since then, 42 years since he first sewed the dress, his guiding principle of a dress "easy to dance" has lived in our each and every dresses. |
